Woot Woot That’s The Sound Of The Police

This week was one of the best weeks I've had so far on my mission. Complete turnaround from last week. The night after last p-day, which was one of the best p-days I've had, we found someone who speaks Spanish. It was a total miracle and homeboy was super interested in the gospel, so he wanted us to come back.  The second time we went back he low key broke up with his lady friend on-the-spot because she didn't want him to be involved with "Mormons", and he wasn't about it. We’re teaching him again tonight and my comp who speaks Spanish fluently is on an exchange. We will see what will happen with my Spanish.  The day after was zone conference where we watched a movie about the birth of the song "Silent Night" and got all our Christmas packages.  The movie had some pretty bad acting in some parts but was fun to comment on.  After that we drove maybe 400 miles going around the zone to meet with members. It was fun to be able to understand Spanish a bit...

I'm going to be honest; this week was a rough one.  Our friends that we were working with said that they are comfortable where they are, so we are going to have to stop teaching them.  We couldn't find anyone this week who would be interested in the gospel and a lot of the lessons we had scheduled feel through. It was a good experience though because I've learned that these weeks are the best ones to learn and grow. We definitely got creative with the work. We made some fliers and put them up in different stores and such around the area and plan on starting an English class. During the week not a lot happened as far as activities. The big things that happened were:  1.  we had mid-trainers;  and 2. well... church.  The time in-between we did way too much Facebook because we contacted all the members and Latinos in the area that we know. Like I said, we did get creative in the work though. The straight G.O.A.Ts (Greatest of All Time), the Torres, gave us an ...

Hello/Hola,   This week was one of the best I've had so far on my mission. Transfer day was honestly exhausting and was bittersweet to see Elder Tafuna'i off.  However, me and my new companion Elder Cubur are excited to help build the new Spanish branch. Our first meeting was on Sunday, and while there weren't too many members in attendance, it is exciting to see all the miracles unfold to build Alta Vista ( the new branch.)    Saturday was hype because we went to a wedding.  There were a few moments that felt like a comedy movie.  We had a great time! It was very cool to be a part of Sister Camarato (Swindler) and Mitch's journey.    Friday was a bit long because we were waiting for the new Spanish branch to start. I am now solely in Alta Vista and it covers the whole Stake so it's good that we finally got our own car. Practicing Spanish has been a grind but working with (basically) only Spanish speaking people will be a blessing.    ...

Hello/Hola,   This week was a blur. I frankly can't remember everything that happened without looking in my journal. The biggest events that happened this week were: The beginning of the Spanish branch in our ward;  the first baptism I was able to participate in; and my meeting with President Ames. Basically this week was insane. Elder Smith was officially sent to Brazil.  He was a cool dude and will do well in Brazil.     Here's a play-by-play of the week:    Tuesday: Elder Smith left and we meet someone who has a lot of potential to be a powerhouse member.   Wednesday: Service at the food pantry, setting up Christmas decor, and interviews with President. A lot of the interview is personal.  However one point worth sharing - when we pray we should really think about who God is and the idea that we are talking to Him. It has helped me personalize my prayer.    Thursday: Typical day in the field.   Friday: Had district coun...

Hello/Hola Everyone,   This week broke the "usual week" streak I've experienced since being out in the field. After last Monday we had our first exchange of the transfer. I got to go with Elder Sorenson. We had a good time and were able to have some good discussions.          We taught one man named Brian who was a bit rough to teach because he didn't give us any room to talk. Sadly, I don't think we will be able to teach him more. We also meet a woman named Tina who was very kind, and we will be seeing her in a few days.        As far as people found and lessons taught - this week was not the best. But I did have the opportunity to learn a lot more about the work and how I can improve. This weekend I had the chance to help with the community in a craft festival. We were able to help the vendors both set up and clean up. It's surprising how much fun I could have by carrying boxes. During the festival we had a "Light the World" booth and ...
