Woot Woot That’s The Sound Of The Police
This week was one of the best weeks I've had so far on my mission. Complete turnaround from last week. The night after last p-day, which was one of the best p-days I've had, we found someone who speaks Spanish. It was a total miracle and homeboy was super interested in the gospel, so he wanted us to come back. The second time we went back he low key broke up with his lady friend on-the-spot because she didn't want him to be involved with "Mormons", and he wasn't about it. We’re teaching him again tonight and my comp who speaks Spanish fluently is on an exchange. We will see what will happen with my Spanish.
The day after was zone conference where we watched a movie about the birth of the song "Silent Night" and got all our Christmas packages. The movie had some pretty bad acting in some parts but was fun to comment on. After that we drove maybe 400 miles going around the zone to meet with members. It was fun to be able to understand Spanish a bit "mejor."
Wednesday was dope ‘cause we met with a Spanish family that has been baptized, and their daughter wants to get baptized and go to church. After that was the other lesson with the dude we found on Monday.
Friday was..... interesting. We had a Zoom meeting for a few hours and then did some service. After dinner, we went right on time to an appointment, but alas the husband wasn't home for an hour. One of the members pulled up next to us and we got to teach a lady in Mexico (virtually) about a lot of different stuff while we were waiting. The member went off though, and it was a bit weird but was good to get some teaching in. The call was cut short when the police came up to our ride and was asking about what we were doing. Apparently, we were looking kinda shady. It was because the member parked right next to us, so it looked like a drug deal was going down. After that we had a good dinner at a member's house. Was for sure the most memorable dinner. The brother that was there was fired by another member who was also there, so he was complaining and critical of the other dude the whole time. There were also some Amish people who were kinda just chilling. After hours was ice cream and Christmas Eve.
Christmas was a party. We hung out with our zone and had a potluck. We watched Narnia which was frankly just as bad and worth making fun of as always. Christmas "p-day" ended at 6pm. We then had a solid zone meeting filled with a few trainings. After that was clean up.
That Sunday was really something else. The new Branch has like 20 total people and our new goal in the ward is 30 people. Kind of a big number. But not to fret because that night we found another 2 Latinos interested in the gospel. I got to bless the Sacrament in Spanish and that was a spiritual experience. The meeting was super weird 'cause the members wanted to make it an hour so we sang a bunch of hymns. That night was a huge miracle.
After another bomb dinner at a member's house, we decided to head out to Bethany. We tried looking at a few different houses one of the other Elders referred us too. We prayed to find two people that night and later I discovered my companion had the same number in mind while I was praying. After trying a bunch of doors asking if they had Spanish neighbors, we had no success. The last door we knocked on after a wild goose chase, lived two Latinos who were thinking about God moments before we showed up. The police came up to the house and said that we were parked in a spot that wasn't the best. We weren't in trouble; they just didn't want our car to get hit. After riding shotgun ( bucket list achieved) he showed us where a bunch of different Latinos live. It was the single greatest referral of all time.
A little other info, one of the presents is this incredibly difficult little metal building. Elder Cubur made some authentic street tacos, and life is good.
This email was one chunky boy, but this week had a lot.
