A Unique Week

Image
Happy Thanksgiving!   This week was very unique and I will most definitely not have another one like it. Let’s begin…    Tuesday- We were able to perform service for a nice lady by doing some painting for her.  We then went to visit the branch president.   Wednesday- There was a protest in Trujillo where we were attending our zone conference.  We had to leave much earlier than planned and spent the day at the mission apartment. After a few hours of phone work, we needed to get outside and went out to meet and talk to people.  We met a really nice lady who was super down to hear more about our message.  She was wearing Stitch ( Lilo & Stitch) PJ’s + slippers + had Stitch on her phone case and it was legit.  We had a very good discussion with her and we were glad we got to meet her.    Thursday (Flames Zone Conference)- Basically, our zone conference was on fire.  Elder Zebollos of the 70 came and dropped some science. We lea...

This week was a trip...a lot of things happened. There was a funeral for a member, which was a sad day.  It was an interesting experience because in Peru you follow behind the person that has passed all the way to the cementerio.  We also had interviews with the mission president which were legit because the things he invited us to do were exactly what I had studied earlier that day.  My question was "what is Joy”?   Anyway we have some really good people we are teaching y estoy más acostumbrado a Peru. (I’m getting accustomed to Peru.) I got to try some Peruvian treats that were solid, and also got some peanut butter (which is different than in the U.S.)    I have been studying about repentance and learned that to suffer and ask for forgiveness doesn't necessarily mean repentance, which is something I, in part, preconceived. Repentance means to turn away from sin.  We will suffer some consequences for our choices, but asking for forgiveness is a ...

This week was sweet and has been trending up. We were able to have a few solid teaching appointments and shared some powerful lessons. We have a friend that will be baptized soon and is a great guy.  We love spending time with him and he has asked us to come shoot some hoops later this week.  We also saw a miracle this week.  A lady from Venezuela stopped us on the street and wants us to teach her family. She said that they all would enjoy hearing our message.  She wants them to be baptized so we are excited to go meet with them.     This week we made something called Causa and had some other solid food.  I’m still getting used to everything but things are starting to become more familiar. One day there was a parade that just started outside our window and that was pretty crazy.  We went out to meet people while they were watching.  There were lots of dogs in the street just chilling watching the parade too. I’ve been focusing on setting...

So, I made it to Peru on Tuesday!  It's a very different place and it's nothing like Missouri. I got mountains though, so that's what's up.    Where to begin....    The roads are straight up crazy.  There are these things called "motor taxis" that kind of just disregard the difference between the road and the alley and the sidewalk. We have to play "crossy road" (much like the frogger video game) every time we walk across the street.   The food here has been pretty stellar thus far.  We have what is called "pensionistas" which is a very sweet lady that makes us breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.  We have someone that does our laundry and takes care of our apartment.    The work here is good. The members are helpful in sending people for us to share our message. I have a bit of a language barrier, and I struggle through a lot of the time.   My companion is very patient with me.  I have noticed that when I am strug...
