Strength
Greetings,
Another great week has gone by here in Peru. We had transfers and I have a new companion named Elder Gomez. We have been visiting the great members here in El Porvenir and meeting with friends. Our ward has also been getting together to play Olympic activities including soccer and volleyball. It is blazing hot here and our apartment has old school AC.
I have been studying about overcoming temptation. Jesus fasted and prayed to receive power against temptation. Learning about Christ and through our experiences with affliction and temptation, we can become stronger. Christ was able to overcome temptation and is an example to us how to prepare and overcome temptations we face. I like this quote by C.S. Lewis.
"Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is….You find out the strength of a wind by trying to walk against it, not by lying down. A man who gives in to temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later….We never find out the strength of the evil impulse inside us until we try to fight it: and Christ, because He was the only man who never yielded to temptation, is also the only man who knows to the full what temptation means — the only complete realist".
