Hello From Missouri Independence Mission

Dear Parents of the MIM Missionaries,

I thought it was well overdue that I send out an email.  I wish to express sincere appreciation to you for sharing your child with us for a time.  After next week’s new arrivals, we will have had about 540 missionaries pass through our mission.  Getting to know them all, to feel of their love for us and the Lord and to have our hearts filled with love for them has been one of the great joys and blessings of our lives.  They are doing marvelous things, they are instruments in the hands of the Lord to share His restored gospel. Their devoted efforts have helped to bring miracles from heaven to truly bless so many lives.

One of the miracles we have experienced this year is to continue to see many good fruits of our labors in spite of many fewer missionaries.  We are currently at 163 missionaries, down from 265 in November 2020.  Last year we saw more baptisms than most any previous year in the mission.  Included in that was “Miracle May” where we had 51 people join the church, the largest one month total we are aware of.  However, this year we are only a few baptisms behind last year with an average of about 70 fewer missionaries.  It witnesses to me that this really is the Lord’s work and he is doing most of it.   We have recently set a mission goal to help 90+ people come and join the church for the third quarter of 2022.  We invite you to be united in prayer with us (D&C 29:6) in our desire to be fruitful servants in the Lord’s vineyard.

I hear from these missionaries each week and many express the things they learn from you and how you help them with challenges of mission life.  We thank you for your loving support.  It is such a joy for us to witness their growth out here.  They become enlightened and have deep spiritual experiences that begin to turn them more outward and focused on the welfare of others, it is wonderful to see.

Please know that in our weakness, Sister Ames and I are doing all we can to help them have a deep spiritual experience, fulfill their mission purpose, and come to better understand what it means to know Christ.

Gratefully,

Lynn J Ames
